One of his tweets today reminded me of something I read in Proverbs this morning.
Chris quoted an old proverb (not from the Bible): “A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song.”
Proverbs 4:23 says, “Guard your heart with all vigilance, for from it are the sources of life.”
It’s the classic GIGO principle – garbage in, garbage out. Whatever is in our hearts will come out in our actions.
Too many of us waste our lives trying to control our actions instead of guarding our hearts. That’s not the abundant life that Jesus offers; it’s just a thief that robs us of our joy, our peace, and, yes, even our song.
What do you need to guard your heart against today, so you don’t have to try to control its actions tomorrow?
