The end of the world

It appears that scientists have determined how and when our world is going to end. According to the Fox News article:

The sun will slowly expand into a red giant, pushing the Earth farther out into space, but not far enough.

Our home planet will be snagged by the sun’s outer atmosphere, gradually plunging to its doom inside the fiery stellar furnace.

OK, that’s the how – but what about the when? How much time do we have?

The good news: This won’t happen for another 7.6 billion years.

The bad news: Life on Earth will end long before then. العاب كازينو مجانية

In fact, we’ve only got a billion years left before the slowly expanding sun boils off the oceans and reduces our planet to an uninhabitable cinder.

Whew! I just bought a house. I was hoping to be able to live there for a while. I guess a billion years will cover it.

Seriously, I thought this was pretty cool. bet356 Why? Because as I read the article, I couldn’t help but think of 2 Peter 3:3-10, where Peter wrote:

Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.” For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water, through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water. But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. الكزينو The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.

God said that He is going to destroy the earth with fire. I don’t know if we have one billion years or one day. Will He use the sun? Don’t know (though that would work). But I know it’s coming. Scientists are just discovering what God said all along.

Is it just a fun fact to know and tell? I don’t think so. Peter followed up that science info with this exhortation we would do well to follow:

Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God… 2 Peter 3:11-12a
